Introduction

Hello, everyone. Our team name is “Yu-zuru” and the members are Yasuhiro Chiba, Kazunori Funai, Yosuke Fukui, Asaki Ishida and myself Ayumi Kitamura.

Our research question was “how was the difference between the textbooks in the past and the present” and “How should be English textbooks in the future?”

To answer to these questions, we conducted the analysis of the English textbooks from following 3 criteria, those which professor Kanaya proposed: (1) Vocabulary and grammar, (2) contents balance in terms of 4 skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing and (3) intercultural understanding.

In this presentation, we would like to show that generally speaking, English textbooks in Japan are getting better.

First, Kazunori and Yasuhiro will explain their analysis of the grammar and vocabulary in the textbooks, and then Yosuke will analyze the textbooks from the view point of the skills balance, and Asaki will figure out the shift with regard to the intercultural understanding. Please note that the term “textbook” refers to only those are certified by the government. Also, please hold questions until the end of this presentation. We will be welcome to answer your questions then.
