あらすじ †

ある日、アンドロイドが一斉に自殺をするという奇異な事件が発生した。
調査により、事件はウィルスによる故意の犯行と判明する。
しかし、製造工場の端末には意味不明の保護コードも見つかる。
逃亡する犯人。追う９課。
その果てに９課が見たものは？
はたしてロボットに魂が宿ることはあるのだろうか。

素子「これ？例のアンドロイド?を未だに生産し続けてる工場って。意外と小さいのね。アンドロイド?の一斉自殺なんていかにもマスコミが飛びつきそうなネタね。」
荒巻「10分やる。わしが責任者に事情聴取する間、おまえは生産ラインの中身を洗え。」
素子「了解。タチコマ、わかってる？」
タチコマ「無論です。こう見えてもプロですから。」

荒巻「工場長を呼んでくれ。」

工場長「倉庫に回しておけ。」
荒巻「公安9課の荒巻です。今回一斉に暴走したおたくのアンドロイド?の件について事情聴取に伺いました。」
工場長「私、工場長の安部と申します。今回はこのような騒ぎを起こして本当に申し訳ありません。」
荒巻「同一の機種だったようですな。」
工場長「ええ、GA07-JL系、ユーザの間ではJELI?と呼ばれていたタイプです。発売直後はそこそこ売れましたが、今は全国でも8000体が稼動しているのみです。」
（工員「こっちじゃないのかな。おかしいなあ。つないでくれ。」）
工場長「正直もううちの目玉という訳じゃないんですよ。生産もアフターケア用の部品製造のみですし。」
荒巻[イシカワ。]
イシカワ[聞いてますよ。今調べます。]
工場長「今となってはデザインも古いし、動きも会話もぎこちないっていうんで部品製造のほうもいつまで続くのやら・・・。」
荒巻「JELI?という特定機種が狙われた点になにか心当たりは？」
工場長「それがないわけではないんですが、実はJELI?はユーザが不適切な改造をしていたことの多かった機種なんです。まあ我が社の上層部はそれで売れてくれるんならって、むしろ喜んでましたがね。うちの工場の若い連中なんかJELI?が自分の運命を呪って自殺したんだって気味悪がってる始末で。」

工場長「なんとか原因究明のほうお願いします。」
荒巻「ご心配なく。」
荒巻[少佐、行くぞ。]
荒巻「失礼します。」

素子「ウイルス?性の暴走に間違いないわ。定期点検プログラムに紛れこませて、ネット接続してきたユーザのJELI?に片っ端からウイルス?を潜入させている。恐らくは修理点検のために工場に回収されてきたJELI?のうちどれかに時限性のウイルス?が仕掛けられ、工場のプログラムに混入した。念のためイシカワに中身分析させてるけど。」
荒巻「一般ユーザの犯行か。国会議事堂とは無関係だと思うか？」
素子「多分ね。それでも一応確認は必要なんでしょ？JELI?ユーザのリスト手に入れたわよ。」
荒巻「優先順位の高いものから片っ端に当たれ。バトーとパズにもリストを。」
素子「もうとっくに送ったわよ。さっそく1件目に向かうわ。」
荒巻「うむ。」

素子「タチコマは9課に戻って別命あるまで待機。残念だけど今回は出番なさそうね。」
タチコマ「ねぇ少佐ぁ、聞いた話では留守番をするとお土産を貰う権利が発生するんですよねぇ？」
素子「土産話なら後でうんざりするくらい聞かせてあげるわよ。」
タチコマ「土産話！？ヤッターヤッター！！」
素子「土産まで要求するようになってきたか。」

荒巻[イシカワか。]
イシカワ[はい。ウイルス?の解析終わりました。先だって国会議事堂で検出されたウイルス?とは似ても似つかない素人臭い出来のウイルス?です。]
荒巻「うむ。」
イシカワ[ひとつ気になるのは保護コードらしきものが見つかりましてね。]

マクラクラン「僕は君無しじゃ居られない。」
JELI「居られるでしょ。」
マクラクラン「でも居たくないんだ。僕と一緒に居てくれるね。」
JELI「ええ。」
マクラクラン「一緒にイタリアに行こう。」
JELI「行って何するの？」
マクラクラン「行ってから考えるさ。」

微笑むJELI?。

マクラクラン「悲しみは無意味だ。悲しみと無とでは、僕は無を取る。」

アナウンサー「アンドロイド?が一斉に自殺するという、何とも奇妙な事件が起こった訳ですが、今日は近代社会学者の宮代先生にお越し頂いております。先生、早速ですが今回の事件についてどのようにお考えですか？」
宮代「まあ、無論アンドロイド?は生命体ではありませんから、正確には自殺ではない訳ですねえ。自壊とでも呼びましょうか。」
アナウンサー「ええ、しかし往年のSF漫画に登場したようにロボット?がゴースト?を持ち始めたのではないかという噂もありますが。」
宮代「それは考えにくいですねぇ。むしろそういった心理をくすぐる為の愉快犯と考えるべきです。」
アナウンサー「なるほど、ここでロボット?愛護団体による・・・」
バトー「くだらねえ。捜査に集中しろよ。」

TVのスイッチを切るバトー。

トグサ「昔は割合人気あったよな、JELI?って。性能はお世辞にも褒められたもんじゃなかったけど、可愛かったし、最近じゃ滅多に見かけなくなったけどさぁ。」

バトー「見かけないって事はそれだけ捜査が楽ってことだ。しかも今回の事件で、ただでさえ少ない機体はさらに少なくなってる。」
トグサ「でもなんでこの手の事件をうちが担当するんだよ。所轄に任せればいいじゃん。」
バトー「先月の国会議事堂でのロボット?騒ぎ、あれもジェネシス・アンドロス?社製だったの、もう忘れたのか？」
トグサ「いや、それは覚えてるけどさぁ・・・にしても、ほぼ確実に無関係なんだろ？殆ど存在しないであろう因果関係を洗うってのは・・・」
バトー「俺らの仕事じゃないって言いたいか？万が一に備えるってのはこういうことだ。残りの9999回まではスカってことさ。なにせ今回はまだウイルスの出所だって判ってない。」
トグサ「ふう・・・。」
バトー「乗りかかった船なんだ。リストの上から虱潰しに当たるぞ。こんな仕事さっさと片付けようぜ。」
トグサ「公務員って楽しいなあ〜。」

マンションに到着。ドアを力づくでこじ開けるバトー。

トグサ「荒っぽいなあ相変わらず。俺に任せりゃ無傷で開けんのに・・・。」
バトー「おまえじゃ時間かかりすぎるんだよ。」
トグサ「ふん！」

マンションに突入。ダブルのベッドがある。また別の部屋には映画フィルムが無数にある。

バトー「あーあー、すげえ映画マニア！・・・ん？」

手に取ったフィルムは「2501 ALPHAVILLE JLG 35mm」。横には「A BOUT DE SOUFFLE JLG 35mm」。トグサはパソコンにプラグ接続し中を確認。

トグサ「JELI?に仕掛けてあったウイルス。当たりクジだ。」

キャバレーにて、おどおどしている店長、仁王立ちの素子、テーブルには札束がある。

バトー[少佐、対象者を見つけた。勘のいい奴だな、一足遅かった。現在地と集めた情報を送る。後はイシカワの情報待ちだ。]

無言で立ち去る素子、ほっとする店長。

暴力団事務所、構成員をシメているパズ、ボーマ。

ボーマ「ほら吐けよ。」
構成員「いちいち愛玩アンドロイド?がどこに行ったかなんて記録してねえんで・・・」
パズ「よせ、ハズレだ。」
ボーマ「またかよ、つまんねぇ。」

イシカワ[犯人の身元を確認しました。カナダ大使の息子、マーシャル＝マクラクラン?26歳。身長は179cm、逮捕歴は無し。8年前に一度本国に帰国していましたが兵役を逃れるために今は日本に舞い戻って来ています。]

トグサ[料理と言っても大した物は作れないんじゃないスか？そこまでの機能をあの価格で実現できたとは思えないんですけどね。]

バトー「いつの時代にも金じゃ買えない旧式デバイスへの熱きノスタルジーを捨てきれない輩がいるってことさ。おまえと気が合いそうじゃねえか。」
トグサ「う・・・やめてくれよ。そういうあんただってこんな私物の旧車ころがしてるじゃないか。」
バトー「ふふん・・・俺のはメカへのピュアな愛情！」

マクラクラン「でもなんか変なんだ。うまくいかないし、みじめな気持ちになる。怖いかい？」

モニターにて前方で工事のため通行止めの情報を確認する。

マクラクラン「くそっ、工事か。同じ結末なんかにしない！」
バトー[予定通り高速を降りたようだ。そのまま誘導をお願いします少佐殿。]
素子[任せなさい。]
トグサ「GPS?に介入して有りもしない渋滞を作り出す、と。」
バトー「有能な隊長の下で働くってのは楽しいだろ？」
トグサ「ん〜！」
バトー「誘導完了！少佐殿に感謝だな。あとは猿親父からの連絡を待つのみか。」

マクラクラン?の車に接近。マクラクラン?はJELI?と共に林の中に逃げ込む。

バトー「いたいた。」

バトー「へいへい。」
荒巻「特権免除の放棄に成功した。行け！」
バトー「了解！」
トグサ「仮にも大使の息子なんだ。無傷でいきましょう。」
バトー「当たり前だ。なるべくなら穏便に話し合いで解決するさ。昔から銃撃や格闘よりも交渉のほうが得意だしな。」
トグサ「ん〜、そうでしょうねぇ。」

バトー「見てらんねぇな。」
トグサ「JELI?連れてちゃそう速くも走れんだろ。」

逃げる方向に素子が立つ

マクラクラン「あ！・・・僕はカナダ大使ハーバード＝マクラクランの息子、マーシャル＝マクラクラン?だ。僕を逮捕することはできないぞ！」
バトー「特権免除ならさっき本国が放棄したぞ。」
マクラクラン「え・・・」

携帯を確認。

マクラクラン「・・・どうして。くそっ。やっぱり無理なのか。」

銃を構えるマクラクラン

マクラクラン「来るな！」
バトー「待て。」
マクラクラン「僕たちは一緒に居たいだけだ。邪魔するな！行くぞJELI?。」

マクラクラン?を制止するJELI?。

マクラクラン「JELI?、何をする！？気でも狂ったのか？」
JELI「いいえ、正気よ。」

バトー「どこがポンコツなんだよ。9課の*2よりよくしゃべるじゃん。」

素子「そう？随分判りやすい事件だと思ったけど。最終的には国会議事堂とは無関係なことが証明されちゃったけどね。あなたはこの事件をどう見てるの？」
バトー「旧型ロボットに郷愁を抱くメカマニアの青年によるメーカーの脅迫。ま、でも結局はそれが逆に部品製造の中止を促したのは皮肉だがな。」
素子「自分のアンドロイド?を世界でたったひとりしか存在しない女性にしたかったんじゃない？」
バトー「そのために奴は他のJELI?をことごとく破壊しようとしたってのか？」
素子「動機は短絡的だし、手段は不器用だけどね。」
バトー「おいおいおい、めずらしく感傷的じゃねえか。仮にそうだとしても自分のJELI?には保護コードをかけてた。そのJELI?までが最後におかしくなったのはどうしてだ？あれからはやっぱり何のウイルス?も検出されてないんだぜ。」

笑う素子。

バトー「まさかJELI?が青年を助けたっていうのか？JELI?はゴースト?のないロボット?だぜ！？」
素子「小さい頃、上手く義体が使えず大事にしていた人形を握りつぶして泣いたことがあったわ。」
バトー「今じゃ世界でも屈指の義体使いじゃねえか。」
