Main aspect/main feature(主な特徴) †

The heartwood of cherry varies from rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age and on exposure to light.
In contrast, the sapwood is creamy white.
The wood has a fine uniform, straight grain, satiny, smooth texture, and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets.
真紅から紅褐色まで、心材は色がさまざまで、光にさらされるとさらに濃くなる。
対照的に辺材は乳白色。
木目は細かく通っており、木肌は滑らか。
褐色の斑点や小さな脂つぼが入っていることもある。

Machining performance(加工性能) †

Cherry is easy to machine, nails and glues well and when sanded,polished and stained, it produces an excellent smooth finish.
It dries fairly quickly with moderately high shrinkage, but is dimensionally stable after kiln-drying.
機械加工、釘打ち、接着に適し、サンダー加工やステイン、つや出し加工で非常に美しい仕上がりとなる。
乾燥はかなり速いが、収縮率はやや高い。
人工乾燥後は安定性が良い。

Physical properties(物理特性) †

The wood is of medium density with good bending properties, it has low stiffness and medium strength and shock resistance.
密度は中、曲げは良好。剛性は低い。衝撃は中。

Decay durability/Decay resistance(耐久性) †

Rated as resistant to heartwood decay.
The sapwood is liable to attack by common furniture beetle, and the heartwood moderately resistant to preservative treatment.
心材には耐朽性がある。
辺材は害虫に弱い。
心材の防腐処理に対する適性は中程度。
