Main aspect/main feature(主な特徴) †

The aspect look like Ash growing Europe.
The sapwood is light-colored to nearly white and the heartwood varies from greyish or light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown.
The wood is generally straight-grained with a coarse uniform texture.
Other properties will vary according to the growing regions.
外観はヨーロッパ産アッシュに似ており、辺材はほとんど白色に近い淡色。心材は灰褐色から淡褐色、褐色の条が入った薄き色まで様々。
木目は一般的に通っており、粗いが均一な木肌。
そのほかの特性は、産地のよって異なる。

Machining performance(加工性能) †

Ash machines well, is good in nailing, screwing and gluing, and can be stained to a very good finish.
It dries fairly easily with minimal degrade, and there is little movement in performance.
機械加工がしやすく、釘、ねじ、接着剤のいずれにも適しており、ステインやつや出し加工で非常に美しい仕上がりを見せる。
乾燥しやすく、安定性も高い。

Physical properties(物理特性) †

Ash has very good overall strength properties relative to its weight.
It has excellent shock resistance and is good for steam bending.
重量と比較して、全般的に強度に極めて優れる。
衝撃強度に優れ、スチーム曲げにも適している。

Decay durability/Decay resistance(耐久性) †

Non-resistant to heartwood decay.
The sapwood is liable to attack by powder post and the common furniture beetle.
The heartwood is moderately resistant to preservative treatment, and the sapwood is permeable.
心材は耐朽性がない。
辺材は虫害を受けやすいが、防腐処理については、心材はあまり効果がなく、辺材は適している。

Availability(入手状況) †

In America:Readily available and abundance.
In Japan:Lumber and single panel are readily available.
Lumber is often distinguished by the growing country,and is sold as Northern Ash or Sorthen Ash.
Sometimes it's distinguished by color,then it's sold that the sapwood is called White Ash and the heartwood is called Brown Ash.(微妙な訳(T_T))
アメリカでは、入手しやすく豊富。
日本では、製材、単板は入手しやすい。製材は産地によって区別されることが多く、ノーザンアッシュ、サザンアッシュとして販売されている。
色によって仕分けしていることもあり、辺材をホワイトアッシュ、そして心材をブラウンアッシュと称して販売される場合もある。
