(1) 空の鳥を見よ、播かず、刈らず、倉に収めず、然るに天の父は、これを養ひたまふ。汝らは之より一も遥かに優るる者たらずや。汝らの中たれか思い煩ひて身の長一尺を加え得んや。又なにゆえ衣のことを思ひ煩ふや。野の百合は如何にして育つかを思へ、労せず、紡がざるなり。されど我汝らに告ぐ、栄華を極めたるソロモンだに、その服装いこの花の一つにも如かざりき。今日ありて明日、炉の投げ入れらるる野の草をも、神はかく装ひ給へば、まして汝らをや、ああ信仰うすき者よ。さらば何を食らひ、何を飲み、なにを着んとて思ひ煩ふな。
(2) 空の鳥を見るがよい。まくことも、刈ることもせず、倉に取り入れることもしない。それだのに、あなたがたの天の父は彼らを養っていて下さる。あなたがたは彼らよりも、はるかにすぐれた者ではないか。あなたがたのうち、だれが思いわずらったからとて、自分の寿命をわずかでも延ばすことができようか。また、なぜ、着物のことで思いわずらうのか。野の花がどうして育っているか、考えて見るがよい。働きもせず、紡ぎもしたい、しかし、あなたがたに言うが、栄華をきわめた時のソロモンでさえ、この花の一つほどにも着飾ってはいなかった。きょうは生えていて、あすは炉に投げ入れられる野の草でさえ、神はこのように装って下さるのなら、あなたがたに、それ以上よくしてくださらないはずがあろうか。ああ、信仰の薄い者たちよ。だから、何を食べようか、何を飲もうか、あるいは何を着ようかと言って思いわずらうな。

And yet for all that I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his royalty, was not arrayed like unto one of these.

Wherefore if God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow shall be cast into the furnace: shall he not much more do the same unto you, O ye of little faith?

Therefore take no thought saying: what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed?
